Meet Dr. Molly
Molly O’Shea, MD
With over 30 years in the field as a keynote speaker, media consultant, journalist, and pediatric medical business owner, I have a passion for helping communities raise independent and healthy children.
A life-long learner, I went straight from an accelerated high school program to med school at The University of Michigan and residency training at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. Immersing myself in these storied institutions gave me both a comprehensive understanding of pediatric care and the universal needs of parents and children as it relates to ethnic, racial, gender, socioeconomic status, and family environment. With these tools, I founded my own boutique practice just outside Detroit and have worked with thousands of families to parent daringly and raise resilient children.
Taking my work from the examination table to your kitchen table, I was the ‘Ask the Pediatrician’ columnist-in-residence for 6 years at The Detroit News. As a writer and editor, I have contributed articles to numerous award-winning medical and parenting journals; as a consultant, I have developed content and programming to expand the reach of noteworthy family-focused businesses; and I’m not shy about picking up the mic as a symposium speaker for audiences of 10 to 10,000. Feel free to explore this site for some juicy credentials.
Being a serial entrepreneur (running medical practices, founding an independent physician organization, a pediatric after hours clinic, and later a pediatric specific clinically integrated network) allowed me to have some fun consulting for the last few years. Serving as a consultant for government agencies ranging from Health and Human Services to our local school district during the Covid-19 pandemic was rewarding. The State of Michigan asked for consulting help when preschools needed a new marketing campaign and they tagged me to come and help. I have worked in the corporate world as well with Horizon Therapeutics and Goldfish SwimSchools where I am still consulting.
Nurture Genomics though is where the rubber meets the road for me. A startup in the genetics space, Nurture combines marketing, medicine, and entrepreneurship. I love it! Our small but mighty team is on a mission to change the way rare disease is discovered and managed in children.
On a personal note, I feel the specificity I bring to every project is rooted in my intimate understanding of what the word ‘family’ means. I’ve raised five kids: two neurodiverse, one who is non-binary, and one who passed away from suicide at the age of 17. I’ve lived and learned what it is like to parent through divorce, remarriage, trauma, grief, and lots of love. ALL of this informs the way I public speak, advocate, and consult with my collaborators and their clients.
When I’m away from my desk, I’m a watercolor painter in my she-shed and a daredevil cook in the kitchen. I have a gift-of-a husband, and when the family is all together, you can find us playing Codenames or making pizza.
